February & March 2012


The LOOTM for February is a joint Chinese/Pakistani aircraft that looks like the offsrping of an F-5 and an F-16, the JF-17 "Thunder"/FC-1 "Xioalong" (Fierce Dragon--gotta love the names the Chinese give their fighters!). While it may prove to be an adversary that will bear watching in the future, for now it's just a cool airplane.

This angle shows the smooth blend at the inlet-wing-fuselage. The JF-17/FC-1 is about 49' long, has a 31' wingspan and approaches the magical 1:1 thrust-to-weight ratio. More here at the Wiki page:
